(This is totally a filler episode btw, but… it is what it is)

Touchdown in Roma.

What a bummerrrrrrr… my God. Not how I thought things would go…

But, whatever…. moving forward with my Eurotrip itinerary as planned!

I got off the plane in Rome and connected to the airport wifi. Of course the messages Jamie sent me as I was getting on the plane finally came through…

J: Dont board

He did try to get me to stay…

(But I mean… a bit late, don’t you think?)

I just texted him back saying I couldn’t miss this flight without having another one booked. I just don’t like leaving things to the last minute when I travel.

He took it well, obviously. He’s a super nice guy. Wished me a good trip in Italy…

Me: “F*****ck I actually wanted to see you”

Like I said before, I wasn’t mad mad at him. Yeah- pissed at the situation, but just annoyed with him. I can’t deny that I still wanted to see him though.

We ~discussed some options about seeing each other again. (Him coming to Rome… me maybe going back to Lisbon after my friends wedding etc. etc.) But there were just a bunch of reasons that none of those were gonna work. (Won’t bore you guys with the details.)

Me: “Well I guess it’s just not in the cards this time”

Sometimes you just have to accept defeat. I had so much fun with him, but probably would never see him again. Fun memory, new friend… I’ll take it.

The girls and I were getting ready to go out for dinner and were all looking amazing. (I feel like night 1 of a vacation is important bc you really have to set the tone for the rest of the trip- Iykyk). So anyway, I was wearing this blue dress with a plunging neckline and thought ‘Hm… I should send Jamie a thirst trap, because- why not!’ It was just a selfie, but the gworlz were out.

Me: Is your house lonely without me though? (Smug face emoji)

You guys have to remember that Jamie is one of the funniest people I’ve ever met in my life, so bare that in mind when reading the texts. It was always like a funny flirty, without being cringe.

J: It’s awfully lonely
J: I miss this

We kind of continued this flirty banter throughout my trip. Sometimes even just texting each other dumb jokes. It was nice, we felt like friends. (Well, I guess a bit more than friends….)

Okay so- here’s the part of the story that gets kinda wild. As in the universe was conspiring, wild…

Remember when I started this saga… and told you guys a bunch of random details (e.g. me quitting my job right before going to Europe), and told you to trust me that it would become relevant later?

Well…

I woke up in Rome (literally 24 hours after I left Lisbon), with a message from a contact at the company I interned for in Switzerland during my masters (two and half years ago)…..

They were reaching out to me about… a job?

huh?

Um… I didn’t apply for any jobs outside of the States… and honestly, I had no plans of moving back to Switzerland… ever. What in the f*ck is going on? I mean, I had a great experience at the company. I left with a lot of amazing contacts and on really good terms with everyone. And I guess when a position opened up… they all agreed I’d be the best person for the job… So…..

Universe at work Baybeeeee

Anyway, I had a lot to think about. Had to talk it over with my family and still needed to do a formal interview. I hadn’t mentioned anything to Jamie about it yet. I mean, I was still processing it for myself.

So I go with the girls from Rome to Florence to Trieste for the wedding. And each step of the way, I’m kind of progressing in this job journey. I did a video interview, had various discussions about the offer, and was invited to do a final interview… in-person… in Lugano (Switzerland)….

At the same time… Jamie and I were still texting. Looking back, I’m not even sure why. I mean, we literally were not going to see each other again. And at that point he had no idea that I even had this offer.

Anyway, I loved that we were still talking. I mean he was definitely occupying my brain space. I would literally post pictures on my instagram stories, just hoping he would see them ahahahahaha. (So lame I know. But I think most girls I know do this sh*t when they have a crush, so I know I’m not alone.)

But it wasn’t one sided, I was definitely occupying his brain space too. Jamie texted me one day when I was in Florence. It was a picture of his feet up on his couch with his balcony in the background.

J: The sofa misses you (teardrop emoji)

I sent him back a nearly identical picture I took of my feet up on his couch with his balcony in the background (lol).

Me: I miss the sofa…

I sent him a few other pics I had of us on the couch… our legs intertwined watching TV, just hanging out.

Me: among other unphotographed moments…

(OOP… I was wildin’ out)

Anyway, by the time I got to Trieste for my friends wedding… I was really strongly considering taking the job. The company asked me if I was able to come to Lugano to meet the team while I was in Europe. Well… I could, but then I would just have to change my flight back to America. Instead of flying back to the US from Venice… I would fly back from Milan Malpensa (the closest airport to Lugano).

And guess where half the flights from Milan to Washington have layovers?

Lisbon.

HM… interestingggg….

Well…. I texted Jamie. Told him that I was going to Switzerland for the interview, was gonna do a few days there, and then had the option of flying back to Washington, or doing a detour in Lisbon…

J: Detour, detour, detor

Ahhhhh…

We figured out flights together… and lets just say he made up for his first flight f*ck up lol.

J: What’s your email?

Me: xxxxxxxxx@gmail.com

J: thought you were gonna give me one of those embarrassing teenager emails

Me: Sorry its actually rudegyalnaynay69@aol.com

J: Hahahaha
J: That’s more like it

A few minutes later…. I got an email confirmation.

Holy sh*t… am I actually gonna see Jamie again?!? I mean what are the chances?!

You guys actually don’t know this, but I met Jamie on August 22nd. And 22 is my lucky lucky lucky number. More than half of my best friends were born on the 22nd of the month. It’s a number that always surrounds me. Good things happen to me on the 22nd. I met this guy by complete accident, on a random balcony, in a random bar. Only because my other “date” was late. We actually clicked, which is already pretty rare. This job popped up out of nowhere. If it wasn’t for the job asking me to come to Lugano, I would’ve left from Venice and probably never seen Jamie again. This story would have ended there.. 2 day summer fling… still fun, but.. you know.

I was happy it wasn’t ending there. I was so excited…

I sent him a screenshot of the flight confirmation email.

Me: Vegas babyy

J: VEGAS BABBYYY
